Pair of Mid-Century Brown Velvet Lounge Chairs Attributed to Edward Wormley, 1960s
Ask a Question
This pair of vintage American mid-century modern lounge chairs are attributed to Edward Wormley and date to the 1960s. The chairs feature generously proportioned upholstered bodies in rich brown velvet with broad, squared arms and overstuffed button-tufted attached back cushions. The upholstery is finished with piping along the edges of the arms, cushions and chair bodies. The chairs rest on exposed solid walnut wood bases with straight square legs, low rectangular stretchers and fitted transitions at the joints. The clean, architectural lines of the walnut bases provide a refined contrast to the generously cushioned upholstered bodies with a practical overall design that has a distinctly American mid-century modern character.
CONDITION
Very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The brown velvet upholstery shows some general wear expected with normal use over time including minor variations in the nap and very small worn areas. Some natural slouching to the upper backrest cushions. The walnut bases show minor wear including scattered surface nicks and abrasions. Overall the chairs are comfortable and have an attractive vintage appearance.
