Mid-Century Modern Teak Wall Unit Bookcase RY100 by Hans Wegner for Ry Møbler, 1960s

This impressive vintage Danish mid-century modern Model RY100 three-bay wall unit or bookcase was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Ry Møbler and produced in Denmark during the 1960s. Exceptionally well-crafted in teak, the freestanding modular system combines extensive open shelving, enclosed storage and an integrated writing desk. Four full-height vertical wooden panels support adjustable shelves and modular cabinet components, including two lower sliding-door cabinets and a floating two-drawer desk. The two cabinets provide generous concealed storage, retaining just one adjustable and removable interior shelf. The vertical supports terminate in signature adjustable steel feet with red-orange access openings, allowing the unit to be precisely leveled. The desk drawers feature distinctive circular recessed wood pulls crossed by horizontal metal handles. The combination of display, storage and workspace makes the system particularly versatile for use as a bookcase wall unit, library, home office or living room media console; the open construction and fully finished back allow the system to be placed against a wall or used freestanding as a room divider.

The RY100 developed from shelving Wegner exhibited at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1954 and reflects his interest in adaptable, space-efficient furniture. Ry Møbler subsequently produced the RY100 as a modular system with a range of interchangeable shelving, storage and workspace components that could be configured according to the needs of an interior. CONDITION
Very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including general surface marks and scratches and minor finish wear. Two holes were cut for wires into the finished back of the left cabinet by previous owner. The system will ship disassembled.
