Mid Century Brown Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer for Stendig 1960s, 2 Available
Ask a Question
This vintage mid-century modern Wassily lounge chair designed by Marcel Breuer for Stendig was produced during the 1960s. Originally designed in 1925 while Breuer was at the Bauhaus, the Model B3, later known as the “Wassily” chair, was among the earliest and most influential uses of tubular steel in modern furniture design. The chair reinterprets the traditional club chair as an open, architectural framework of intersecting lines and suspended planes.
This vintage chair features classic construction with a polished chrome-plated continuous tubular steel frame and individual dark brown leather hide panels comprising the seat, back and arms, creating the distinctive open construction of the Wassily chair. During the 1960s, Stendig was the exclusive U.S. distributor of Marcel Breuer’s furniture, including the Wassily chair. The chair retains its original “Original Design, Stendig, Made in Finland” label to the frame.
