Cassina LC2 Black Leather Three-Seat Sofa by Le Corbusier, 1980s

This vintage modernist LC2 Grand Confort black leather three-seat sofa was designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand in 1928 and manufactured by Cassina in the 1980s. Known as the Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle, the LC2 was conceived as a modern interpretation of the traditional upholstered club chair, combining geometric simplicity and innovative construction with comfort and functionality. First presented at the 1929 Salon d’Automne in Paris, the design became an important example of modernist furniture and its rationalist approach to industrial production, its clean, geometric structure embodying the essence of the Bauhaus era.

The sofa features eight individual cushions upholstered in high-grade black leather, wrapped by a polished chrome-plated tubular steel frame. The generously padded cushions provide comfortable seating while the exposed metal structure creates a distinctive architectural framework. All cushions are removable with zippered covers and rest on a system of heavy nylon support straps. Cassina began manufacturing the LC collection in 1965, bringing these influential modernist designs into licensed serial production. The sofa bears the original impressed model designation and serial number “LC2 014800” on the chrome frame with faint traces of the Cassina M silkscreened logo mark. Made in Italy.

CONDITION
Overall good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Frame is generally bright and clean with light surface wear and minor oxidation. Leather shows generalized wear with softening and creasing, minor surface abrasions and rubbing. Top leather panel of right armrest has been professionally replaced.
