The frame supports six discrete but connected soft pad black leather cushions over a suspended fabric sling. The cushions are connected by concealed zippers, with two additional loose leather soft pad cushions that can be positioned for head or body support. Its unusual proportions were intended to allow the user’s arms to fall naturally to either side upon falling asleep, providing a gentle awakening. Introduced by Herman Miller in 1968, the chaise remains one of Charles and Ray Eames’ most distinctive furniture designs and is represented in the permanent collections of major art and design museums internationally.
